Maternal Health Review Karnataka during Covid-19 quarter-2
All health services are essential and need to be functional across the country.
SDG target of MMR is 70 per 1 lakh population by the year 2030.
ANC registration during the year 2019-20 Q2 is 568310 and during 2020 -21 Q2 it is 516133. There is decrease in the 5.55% of total ANC registration during the year 2020-21. In normal scenario along with the increased knowledge of the RCH portal among the Jr HA F and M the ANC registration must have increased. Due to the pandemic the ANC registration decreased in the state as all the health staff were deputed to the core Covid functionalities. Though MCH services not neglected but took a back step during the period.
1st Trimester ANC registration during the year 2019-20 Q2 is 79.2% and during 2020 -21 Q2 it is 79.8%. There is decrease in the 0.6% of total 1st Trimester ANC registration during the year 2020-21.
% of Pregnant women received 4 or more ANC checkups during the year 2019-20 Q2 is 98.5% and during 2020 -21 Q2 it is 88.9%. There is decrease in the 9.6% of Pregnant women received 4 or more ANC checkups during the year 2020-21.
No of institutional deliveries during the year 2019-20 Q2 is 456198 and during 2020 -21 Q2 it is 412972. There is decrease in the 9.5% of of institutional deliveries during the year 2020-21. During the peak of the Covid-19 during the 2nd quarter majority of the private hospitals were closed. Government hospitals provided the delivery services. There might be chances that some of the deliveries which have taken place in the home and other facilities have not been reported in the software.
% of institutional deliveries to TRD during the year 2019-20 Q2 is 99.5% and during 2020 -21 Q2 it is 99.8%. There is decrease in the 0.1% of institutional deliveries to TRD during the year 2020-21.
% of C section deliveries performed during the year 2019-20 Q2 is 31.3% and during 2020 -21 Q2 it is 33.5%. There is increase in the 2.2%of C section deliveries during the year 2020-21. The number of C-sections performed increased which is cause of worry.
Maternal Death Surveillance
SRS Data during 2015-17 India is 122 and Karnataka state is 97 and during 2016-18 India is 113 and Karnataka state is 92.

From the above date it is observed that there is increase in the number of maternal during the same quarter from the previous year. The number of maternal deaths reviewed by the CMHO and the DMs are 100%. District Magistrate and CMHOs must compulsorily review the maternal deaths to assess the reason for the death and discuss the future plans to control the deaths due to similar causes.

There are total number of 173 FRUs in the state and out of these 128 FRUs fulfill the FRU conditionalities.
