1.1 Startups Startups are companies that believe in innovation, and their entry into the market disrupts the market. COVID-19 provided opportunities for individuals with ideas to enter the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Startup entrepreneurs, being visionaries, enter the business arena with the hope of creating a lot of employment opportunities, revenue, and customer satisfaction. The successful company that gets listed in the market makes a huge profit for the owner. The latest addition to the Indian unicorn club is 5ire. 1.2 Qualification Standards for Startup Recognition: Startups may submit an application for recognition under the Startup India Action Plan if they meet the requirements stated in G.S.R. notice 127 (E). Startups must include supporting materials with their applications. • The startup must be registered as a limited liability partnership, a partnership firm, or a private limited company. • And it must have had a turnover of less than INR 100 billion in any of the past fiscal years. • A company is considered a startup for ten years after its foundation. The startup should be attempting to innovate or improve current goods, services, and procedures, and it should have the potential to produce money and jobs. 1.3 Startup India Initiative On January 16, 2016, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, a 19 point, Startup India Initiative was inaugurated by Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the Government of India. Startup India: The Way Ahead - is a part of the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat which aims to sustainable development and self-reliance, self-dependency. The objectives of the initiatives are to support entrepreneurs, build a strong startup ecosystem and make India a country of job opportunities. It focuses on three basic ideas: • Simplification and Handholding • Funding Support and Incentives. • Industry-Academia Partnership and Incubation. 1.4 Startup India Portal. The Startup India portal is a ready reckoner portal for startups in India. This online portal provides the startup ecosystem an opportunity to register, network, participate, and access useful tools and resources for free. It also enables the mentors to register online. Website: www.startupindia.gov.in. Eligible entrepreneurs, startups, investors, accelerators, corporates, incubators, government bodies can register here. It has five broad headings. 1. Policies and Schemes Programs (i) About: Information on the StartupIndiaPortal, the StartupIndia Action Plan, and the development of Startup India is provided in this section. Connect with Incubators (839): There are 839 incubators registered. Startups can find suitable incubators in their region for growth, mentoring, and learning opportunities. 2. Connect with Corporates/Accelerators (187): Startups can get connected with the corporates and accelerators from the same business segment for more reach and market strategy. 3. Connect with Mentors (803): The portal lists mentors who specialize in various fields. Startups can best utilize mentors in the growth and development of their business. 4. Connect with Government (66): This is an opportunity for startups to connect with relevant government ministries and departments in search of opportunities and strengths. 5. Connect with Investors (121): Startups requires funds for growth. They can make use of the opportunity to attract investment from the investors from rightly pitching with the business model of revenue generation and idea. (iv) Schemes and Policies: Various ministries and departments are providing funds through various programmes and rules to encourage entrepreneurship.
