Maternal death relating to anemia is not acceptable
In today's scenario, any maternal death relating to anemia
is not acceptable. The health department, Women and Child departments have
brought different schemes to reach the antenatal care of pregnant women.
Schemes like Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakrama under national health mission
and Matru Purna Yojana by women and child department must have worked towards
reducing the anemic cases in the country drastically and in the state of
Karnataka in particular. If any deaths are occurring because of anemia it is the
combined failure efforts of ASHA, AWW, ANM.and the system as a whole. Anemia
among pregnant women may lead to the death of the pregnant women and also
child.
ASHA-Accredited Social Health Activists a new position that
was created for the benefit of women and upgrading the economic status of the
rural and slum women by providing a financial incentive to the work done by
them in various different health activities. One ASHA is selected by the gram
panchayat for every 1000 population as per the criteria specified. ASHA should
advocate the importance of good food in the day to day life of all women and
children. She is a known woman in the region she should not let any women
suffer from anemia. She should inform all concerned authorities to resolve the
anemic problem in her area and ensure no women and children dies of anemia
Junior Health Assistant Female - Auxiliary Nursing Midwife
plays a pivotal role in the health system's decentralization process. She is
the 1st authoritative person in the health sector who keeps the records of the
village with all demographic details. She maintains various registers with
population and other details. She gives the primary health service to the
villages. She carries the routine immunization in her area. She heads the
different surveys in her area. She is the person who distributes the Tayi cards
to the pregnant women in her area once she comes to know the lady is pregnant.
She registers the details in the Reproductive and Child Health portal. Once RCH
ID is created the pregnant women details can be viewed anywhere in the country
and she is able to get all the help in time if details are filled accurately.
So it becomes mandatory for the pregnant women to update the Tayicard with all
the details including socioeconomic status and caste along with the bank
details. Bank details enable pregnant women to get any approved financial
benefits from the Government in time online mode. She must educate pregnant
women about the importance of diet in the pregnancy period.
Anganwadi worker plays a key role in the intersectoral
convergence of the different health programs related to pregnant women and
child in the village. Before the arrival of the ASHA, it was Anganwadi workers
who were keeping records of pregnant women, child details and demographic
details. They still keep these records. Matru purna yojana where quality food
is given to pregnant women. The Anganwadi worker must take at most care and
ensure that no women die of anemia in her area.
The only need of the hour is all the participants must come
out and participate in saving every pregnant woman.
