Save Cows from LSD: Lumpy Skin Disease Wake up ! India is known for its varied culture and religious beliefs and values. The cows are an essential part of this rich heritage. Cows are sacred animals who have been given the status of mothers in scripts, epics, and everyday life. The cow, in particular, is useful for multiple purposes, hence it’s called cows are an essential part of this rich heritage. Cows are sacred animals who have been given the status of mothers in scripts, epics, and everyday life. The cow, in particular, is useful for multiple purposes; hence it's called "Kamdhenu.". Everything in a cow is used for one or another purpose. The cow provides milk, cow dung is used for fertilizer, and for fire purposes, urine is used as medicine. The cow dung is applied to the floor in the villages. The cow is auspicious, and it is the first one to enter the housewarming ceremony. It’s the reason for prestige and war. One of the wars in the Mahabharat is for cattle during the Virata Parva. In India, with the Muslim invasion and the entry of Christianity, food habits changed drastically. The cow also became part of the menu. The Hindu majority opposes this, and minority people shout that the majority is oppressing them. Hinduism is pure science and defines foods as healthy. Food habits that are not healthy for human beings are forbidden. Cows are social animals. They recognize the owners. The cows are psychologically supporting the ill person to overcome the problems. There are many examples in the Indian epics of how illnesses were overcome by worshipping cows. With the changes in the environment and the climate, there were changes in the indigenous cattle. The cross-breeding, bringing the cows from a foreign land, somehow changed the ecological balance that the environment had created. The cows are suffering from diseases, different diseases. The land is shrinking and the water sources are depleting. Animal health is truly human wealth and health in a real sense. Hence, it’s absolutely essential to protect the cows from diseases. In the global outbreak of LSD, human and animal health administrators must work together to implement a single health strategy. It’s a natural declared emergency that needs to be addressed on a priority basis. It must be priority 1. Milk is an essential product in human history. Artificial milk is not going to favour the human digestion system as much as cow's milk. The war is going to happen for milk if LSD is not addressed in time. Due to COVID, we are still in the process of understanding its physiological impact on humans. Only the future will give the answer. In this scenario, the priority of humanity must be to safeguard the cows. LSD is killing cows. The deaths of cows mean reduced milk. Milk is an economic commodity. And it will have a drastic impact on the larger economic operations. For 11000 LSD deaths if we take an approximate loss of 20000 per head the total loss is rs. 22 crores! That is quite huge hope the veterinarian was in deep sleep, who let the disease spread across the state. I even doubt about issue of any SoP’s in this regard. Number of Cows Approximate value Total 11000 20000 22,00,00,000.00 that is 22 crore rupees in one state in 2 months. In terms on million it is Rs220 million. The Progressive Dairy Farmers Association (PDFA), however, puts the mortality figure at 1.25 lakh. "There are more than 12,500 villages in the state. "There was hardly any village that did not report the death of cows due to the LSD," said Daljit Singh Sadarpura, president of PDFA. Number of Cows Approximate value Total 125000 20000 1,25,00,00,000.00 that is 125 crore rupees in one state in 2 months. In terms on million it is Rs.1250 million. If we go as per the PDFA (The Progressive Dairy Farmers Association), the loss is 125 crores in 2 months. The governments have to create vaccination drives, collect more samples, and test for solutions and possibilities to overcome the problem. Interdepartmental cooperation is essential, testing for the new disease in humans, disposing of carcasses, containment zones, and preventive measures like banning animal market fairs.
