Recruitment is the act of getting recruits; enlisting people for job.

Dale S. Beach “Recruitment is the development and maintenance of adequate manpower resources. It involves the creation of a pool of available Labour upon whom the organization can draw when it needs additional employees”.

Recruitment is the process of attracting qualified applicants for a specific job. The process begins when applications are brought in and ends when the same is finished. Recruitments bring the pool of applicants for job.

Recruitment enables an organization to have right kind of people at right place at all the times. Recruitment plays key role in development of the organization. Organization without employees not imaginable as founder / owner himself or herself is the first employee of that organization.

One of the biggest investments that an organization makes is in recruitment. It is known fact that quality investment is getting high returns for the organization. Returns in the form of delivering outstanding performance, control costs, increase sales, maintain efficiency and develop the organisation.

Recruitment is evaluated on the basis of the speed with which positions are filled, the feedback from participants and the percentages of candidates who end up being employed.

  According to Flippo recruitment is a process of searching for prospective employees through different means. Searching through different means, sources could be internal job postings, internal employee referrals, ex employees.

Recruitment is the process of identifying eligible candidates and making them to apply for the post.

Two types can be differentiated.
  1. recruitment of fresher
  2. recruitment of employees of
    • Other companies / experienced.
    • Own company

Recruitment process begins for filling up the vacancy created due to
  1. some one leaving the company,
  2. organization growth strategy
