INSV Kaundinya
The INSV Kaundinya, a traditional sailing vessel built using ancient Indian shipbuilding techniques. This stitched sail ship is based on a 5th-century CE design depicted in the Ajanta Caves and was recently inducted into the Indian Navy.
It's about 19.6 meters long, 6.5 meters wide, and has a draft of 3.33 meters, powered solely by sails with a crew of around 15 sailors.
The Kaundinya recently completed its maiden overseas voyage from Porbandar, Gujarat, to Muscat, Oman, showcasing India's rich maritime heritage and indigenous shipbuilding skills.
The vessel is named after the legendary Indian mariner Kaundinya, who sailed to Southeast Asia in the 1st century.
