Define Swing trading

Swing Trading

Swing trading is a trading strategy where an investor buys and sells financial assets—such as stocks, ETFs, cryptocurrencies, or currencies—with the goal of profiting from short- to medium-term price movements. Trades are typically held for a few days to several weeks, rather than minutes (day trading) or years (long-term investing).

How it works
A swing trader tries to identify a price "swing":
Buy when an asset appears likely to rise over the coming days or weeks.
Sell after the price has increased to a target level or when momentum weakens.
Some swing traders also short sell assets they expect to decline.

Common tools swing traders use:
Technical analysis (price charts)
Trend lines and support/resistance levels
Moving averages
Indicators such as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and MACD
Volume analysis
Some traders also consider earnings reports, economic news, or other fundamental factors that could influence prices.

Example
Suppose a stock is trading at Rs.50 and appears to be breaking out of a consolidation pattern.
You buy 100 shares at Rs.50.
One week later, the stock reaches Rs.55.
You sell, earning a Rs.5 per share profit (before commissions, fees, and taxes).

Pros
Requires less time than day trading.
Can capture meaningful price moves over several days or weeks.
No need to monitor markets every minute.

Cons
Positions are exposed to overnight and weekend market risk.
Not every predicted price swing occurs.
Requires discipline with risk management, including setting stop-loss orders.
*Swing Trading* is a trading style where you hold a stock / index for a few days to a few weeks to catch a "swing" in price.

In short:
Intraday = hours,
Swing = days/weeks,
Positional = months,
Investing = years.

Swing trading can be a good fit for people who want to actively trade but cannot watch the markets continuously throughout the trading day. However, like all trading strategies, it carries the risk of losses, and there is no guarantee of profit.
