A beautiful story for Krishna Janmashtami - *Why Krishna Stole Butter (Makhan Chor)*

In Vrindavan, Yashoda Maa made fresh white butter every morning. She would churn curd for hours and keep the butter in a matki (pot) hanging high from the ceiling.

But little Krishna, just 4-5 years old, loved that butter more than anything.

Every day, Yashoda would say, "Kanha, don't touch the butter, it's for the puja!"

But Kanha would gather all his friends - Sudama, Madhumangala - make a human tower, one standing on another's shoulder, and quietly steal the butter. He would not eat alone. He would sit and feed all his friends, and even the monkeys and crows.

One day Yashoda got angry and tied him to a big wooden mortar (ukhal) as punishment.

Everyone thought little Kanha would cry. But he started dragging that heavy mortar into the garden. There were two big Arjuna trees standing together. The mortar got stuck between them.

Kanha pulled a little harder... and both trees fell with a huge sound!

From the trees, two shining Gods came out - they were actually Kubera's sons who were cursed to become trees. Krishna's touch freed them.

Yashoda ran out and saw this - she understood her small son is not ordinary. He is God himself who came to free everyone, but still acts like a small child who loves butter.

*Meaning of the story:*

Krishna steals butter because butter is like our heart - white, soft, pure. He steals only the pure hearts. He doesn't want our money or gold, he wants our love. And he shares that love with everyone, just like he shared butter with friends.

This Janmashtami, keep your heart soft like butter for him.
