Killing of female Pregnant Elephant in Silent Valley Forest Kerala 27/05/2020

I woke up early in the morning at 4.30 AM. I woke up early due to some disturbance in the dream. I switched on TV watched for a while. After 5.30 took bath and read verses of Soundarya Lahari by Shri Adi Shankaracharya. Also, read Lalita sahasranama.

I went for the morning walk and returned. While returning at the beginning of the road there is one tea shop. I had tea and returned home. I switched on the TV and started watching the news channel. In one of the news channels, the news of the female pregnant woman being killed by putting crackers in pineapple fruit in Kerala state on 27th may 2020 was aired. I was shaken to the ground and I was not able to bear the news I closed the news channels.

The elephant is huge with a long tusk and grandeur. I can't even imagine how anyone could even try to kill such a pregnant animal. It is one of the intelligent animals in the animal kingdom. In India, it is worshipped. The elephant head is the head of God, Sri Ganesh. We worship Sri Ganesh Maharaj and also pray for wisdom and knowledge.

Anybody who watched would have noticed how much pain the elephant would have endured. How can anybody think of killing a pregnant elephant? It is much worst than corona. Would they think of killing a pregnant lady by giving putting poison in the fruit?  The gestation period of elephants is 640 to 665 days.  nearly 95 weeks or 1.82 years. Whereas in humans the gestation period is 280 days or 40 weeks.  One can notice the difference between the number of days a mother carries her child in her embryo.

Elephants were killed for various reasons. Elephants corridors were embraced by the human being in the process of evolution. Elephants feeding land is decreased. Elephants' natural habitats are destroyed. Elephants are killed by trains, hunters, and natural calamities.

Who could think of killing the queen and the unborn princess of the forest?  The government makes and frames policies to look after the well being pregnant women. Why there are no such laws in practice to look after the endangered species. This incident calls for stringent action against such heinous crimes. Strict action must be taken against the offenders. At the same time elephant corridors to be developed. The pregnant elephant and such endangered species protection need to take special care. A new mission to serve like these godly species required by the Govt.

Keralites love the Elephants. Elephants are part and parcels of their walk of life. Some new generation miscreants might have killed queen and the unborn baby. Hope, Keralites, rise to the occasion and protect the elephants with special care before more such incidents gets reported for the sake of reporting or other reasons.

I don't feel this is the first of the occasion but due to Corona people were able to notice such incidents. Corona though epidemic to humanity, It is acting as a protector of the animal kingdom and nature.

When people failed to frame policies to protect the interests of the  Environment, The environment will frame its own rules and policies to protect its interest. If we Governments don't  frame

The elephant died on 27/05/2020 in the Velliyar River.Kollam District.  "When we saw her she was standing in the river, with her head dipped in the water. She had a sixth sense that she was going to die. She took the Jalasamadhi in the river in a standing position," Mohan  Krishnan, a forest officer who was deputed to bring the elephant back to the shore, wrote in economic times. .
